Description
ARDEX P51 is a multi-purpose, water-based primer engineered for use ahead of ARDEX water-based levelling and smoothing compounds, tile adhesives and floor finishing systems. As one of the cornerstone products of the ARDEX subfloor preparation system, P51 is specified across architect-led commercial floor build-ups and high-spec residential installations.
The primer is formulated to seal absorbent substrates — concrete, sand/cement screeds, anhydrite (after appropriate sanding), brick and block work — controlling the rate at which water is drawn out of the levelling compound or adhesive applied over it. This protects the cure profile of the topping product, prevents premature drying, and ensures the bond between substrate and final finish develops to its specified strength.
P51 carries a distinctive blue pigment that visibly identifies primed areas, eliminating the guesswork on large-floor installations where coverage gaps would otherwise be invisible until problems emerge later in the build. Supplied in a re-sealable tub with simple water-dilution rates depending on the substrate — typical coverage runs to around 160m² per 5kg unit at standard dilution.
Built on ARDEX's German floor-preparation engineering heritage, P51 is the right primer specification when the subsequent build-up has to perform to manufacturer warranty and the substrate cannot be allowed to compromise the cure.
