Description
The ThermoSphere Decoupling Membrane 5m² (HDM-005) is a fleece-backed polyethylene membrane engineered as the installation substrate for the ThermoSphere Ultimate heating cable, and as a stand-alone anti-fracture layer beneath ceramic, porcelain and natural stone tiles.
Key Benefits
- Fleece-backed polyethylene membrane, 5.5mm thick
- Neutralises lateral movement to minimise cracking and delamination
- Provides a waterproof layer when combined with ThermoSphere waterproofing products
- Compatible with ThermoSphere Ultimate heating cable at 130W/m² or 195W/m²
- Suitable for both heated and unheated tiled floors
- Robinson test rated for extra heavy use
Applications
Ideal for tilers, bathroom fitters and wetroom installers preparing floors in bathrooms, kitchens, hallways and living areas before tiling, with or without underfloor heating.
Performance & Features
Adhered to the substrate with a flexible tile adhesive, the membrane's dimpled structure decouples the tile finish from movement in the substrate below, reducing the risk of cracked grout and lifted tiles.
Compatibility
Works with the full range of ThermoSphere Ultimate cable sizes (HDMC-012 to HDMC-200) and with ThermoSphere waterproofing paste and tape for a fully tanked floor build-up.
Supplied by Millcot, your trade source for ThermoSphere underfloor heating and floor preparation systems.

FAQs
Can I use this without underfloor heating cable?
Yes, HDM-005 works as a standalone anti-fracture and decoupling layer under tiles even without heating cable installed.
What adhesive should I use?
Bed the membrane in a flexible, polymer-modified tile adhesive suitable for movement-prone substrates.
Is it waterproof on its own?
The membrane alone is not a certified tanking system; use with ThermoSphere Waterproofing Paste and Tape to create a waterproof layer for wetrooms and showers.
Does it work over timber floors?
Yes, provided the timber substrate is stable and suitable for tiling; always follow the datasheet installation guidance.
