Description

Mapei Eco Prim T Plus is a universal, solvent-free acrylic resin primer in water dispersion, engineered to improve adhesion of levelling compounds and adhesives on almost any absorbent or non-absorbent substrate. Supplied ready to use as a light blue liquid, it is applied by brush or roller and is a staple product for professional tilers and flooring installers preparing floors and walls ahead of smoothing, screeding or tiling.

As an all-purpose adhesion promoter, dust fixative and absorption regulator, Eco Prim T Plus is used to prepare cementitious and gypsum-based subfloors before applying levelling compounds, to key surfaces with traces of old adhesive or smoothing compound, and to prime gypsum, anhydrite, wood, marine plywood, chipboard, terrazzo, ceramic and natural stone substrates before smoothing or tiling. It also acts as a bonding aid over Mapeproof waterproofing membranes and as a dust sealer on absorbent screeds before parquet adhesives or self-adhesive LVT installation.

Fast-drying and low odour, Eco Prim T Plus is non-flammable and carries EMICODE EC1 Plus certification for very low VOC emissions, making it safe to use in occupied buildings with minimal disruption. It is diluted 1:2 with water for cementitious and anhydrite substrates (up to 1:4 depending on porosity), or used undiluted on existing ceramic tile, natural stone, wood and water-resistant adhesive residues.

Key benefits

  • Universal acrylic primer for absorbent and non-absorbent substrates
  • Improves adhesion of levelling compounds, mortars and adhesives
  • Fast-drying — as little as 0 minutes on absorbent substrates, 30–60 minutes on low/non-absorbent substrates
  • Solvent-free, low odour and EMICODE EC1 Plus certified for very low emissions
  • Dilutable to suit substrate porosity, or used neat on non-absorbent surfaces

Applications

  • Priming cementitious and gypsum-based subfloors before self-levelling compounds
  • Preparing surfaces with residual adhesive or old smoothing compound before re-tiling
  • Priming gypsum, anhydrite, wood, marine plywood, chipboard, terrazzo, ceramic and natural stone
  • Bonding aid over Mapeproof ESM, Mapeproof One Coat and Mapeproof 1K Turbo membranes
  • Dust sealer on absorbent screeds before MS parquet adhesives or self-adhesive/loose-lay LVT

Performance and features

Eco Prim T Plus offers excellent bonding, water resistance and ageing resistance once cured. It is applied only to internal flooring and moisture-stable wood, and must not be used on substrates subject to rising damp — an effective damp-proof membrane should always be present beneath the subfloor. Coverage is approximately 0.10–0.20kg/m² depending on substrate porosity and application method, and the product remains stable for at least 12 months in its original sealed packaging when protected from frost.

Compatibility

Part of the wider Mapei substrate preparation and installation system, Eco Prim T Plus is designed to be used ahead of Mapei self-levelling compounds, smoothing mortars and tile adhesives for a fully manufacturer-compatible installation.

FAQs

What is Mapei Eco Prim T Plus used for?
It's a universal acrylic primer used to improve the adhesion of levelling compounds, mortars and adhesives on absorbent and non-absorbent floors and walls before tiling, screeding or flooring installation.

Do I need to dilute Eco Prim T Plus before use?
Yes, on cementitious or anhydrite substrates it's typically diluted 1:2 with water (up to 1:4 depending on porosity). On existing ceramic tile, natural stone, wood or water-resistant adhesive residue, it's applied undiluted.

How long does Eco Prim T Plus take to dry?
Drying time depends on the substrate — absorbent surfaces like screed or concrete can be overcoated straight away, while low or non-absorbent substrates such as ceramic or epoxy resin typically need 30–60 minutes before the next layer is applied.

Can I use Eco Prim T Plus on external floors?
No, Eco Prim T Plus is designed for internal flooring and walls only, and should not be used on substrates subject to rising damp.

Is Eco Prim T Plus suitable for use before self-levelling compound?
Yes, it's specifically formulated to prepare cementitious and gypsum-based subfloors before applying Mapei levelling compounds and other smoothing mortars.

What size does Eco Prim T Plus come in?
This listing is for the 5kg drum, ideal for small to medium areas of floor and wall preparation. A 20kg drum is also available from Mapei for larger contracts.
