Description
Ardex X 11 W is a white, semi-rapid setting, cement-based tile adhesive for walls and floors, classified C2 TE S1 to BS EN 12004. Highly polymer-modified for enhanced adhesion and flexibility, it has excellent grab and slump resistance, making it a dependable choice for fixing large format wall tiles. A smooth, gel-like consistency makes it easy to mix and a pleasure to trowel, and the long 2½ hour pot life means bigger mixes can be used with confidence on larger areas.
Key Benefits
- Classification: C2 TE S1 – improved deformable adhesive with reduced slip and extended open time
- Semi-rapid setting – walk on and grout after 6–8 hours at 20°C
- 2½ hour pot life for bigger mixes
- 45-minute open time (best fixed within 30 minutes, adjustable for up to 15 minutes)
- Excellent grab and slump resistance for large format wall tiles
- Up to 15mm bed depth in isolated areas (up to 0.5m²)
- Bright white colour – ideal for light, translucent and natural stone tiles
- EMICODE EC1 very low emission
Applications
Ideal for ceramic and fully vitrified tiles, porcelain, glass and porcelain mosaics, terrazzo and other low porosity tiles, plus non-moisture sensitive natural stone. Suitable for internal and external use, swimming pools and wet areas, and for fixing to concrete, cement/sand screeds and renders, heated subfloors, brickwork and blockwork, gypsum plaster, plasterboard, tile backer boards and existing ceramic tiling.
Performance & Compatibility
- Suitable for fully commissioned underfloor heating on concrete or cement/sand screeds
- Cured adhesive withstands temperatures from -30°C to 100°C
- Can be applied to dry or moist surfaces (moisture sensitive materials must remain dry)
- Prime absorbent surfaces and anhydrite screeds with Ardex P 51; use Ardex P 4 or P 82 on smooth, non-porous surfaces
- Grout with Ardex-Flex tile grouts, or Ardex epoxy grout where chemical resistance is required

FAQs
What is Ardex X 11 W used for?
It's a white, semi-rapid setting flexible adhesive for fixing porcelain, ceramic, mosaic and suitable natural stone tiles to walls and floors, indoors and out, including large format wall tiles.
How long before I can grout or walk on it?
Typically 6–8 hours at 20°C, depending on tile and background porosity. Lower temperatures lengthen this, higher temperatures shorten it.
Is it suitable for underfloor heating?
Yes, on concrete or cement/sand screeds with fully commissioned underfloor heating.
Can I use it in swimming pools and shower areas?
Yes, it's suitable for swimming pools and wet areas. For showers, use a tanking system such as Ardex WPC to protect moisture sensitive backgrounds.
How much water do I add?
Approximately 5.4 litres per 20kg bag. Don't exceed the maximum water content.
Do I need to prime the surface?
Absorbent surfaces, concrete and anhydrite screeds should be primed with Ardex P 51 (diluted 1:3). Smooth, non-porous surfaces need Ardex P 4 or P 82 as appropriate.
Can I tile directly onto plywood or timber?
No. Under BS 5385-3:2024, timber is not suitable for direct tiling. Overlay with a tile backer board or use a suitable uncoupling matting.
